Our new product is Illegal: What is “raw” milk?

The sale of raw milk is currently banned and deemed illegal in the state of Michigan (and some others).

Crazy, huh?

I was actually just speaking with someone the other day about our milk, and the expression on her face transformed almost immediately:

Her eyes took on a far-away, dreamy look, and she began telling me of her childhood memories, of Dad and Grandad milking cows. “Those are some of my most cherished memories, now that I think about it. And the milk, well, it goes without saying, it certainly is DIFFERENT.”

Yes, “different” she said, and she is so spot on.

You see, raw milk is REAL milk.

It’s been deemed Nature’s perfect food when left in its natural, unadulterated state.

It’s still LIVING!

(It has been said that raw milk doesn’t ever actually spoil, it just changes forms... more on that another time)

The beneficial bacteria is still thriving (growing calves is hard work!), and it goes straight to work on building up our gut walls, delivering loads and loads of much-needed vitamins and Omegas to our lacking bodies.

Our bones.

Our teeth.

Our hearts.

Our minds.

Did you know that 95% of our immune system is in our gut?😱

Don’t believe me? The research is there, and let me tell you, the numbers aren’t even needed once you experience it for yourself.

People have been the living evidence for thousands of years.

“Why is it called ‘raw’ milk?” you ask.

Well, it’s not been cooked!

The milk that you buy in the store has been heated and processed in order to kill any bad bacteria, and to make it more shelf-stable, so it can be transported and sit on the shelves and in your refrigerator for forever and a day.

I swear, that ultra-pasteurized stuff will outlast me!

(Definitely don’t drink that stuff, by the way)

And when it goes bad? Watch out!

So why aren’t we concerned about pasteurizing ours?

That’s simple: ours isn’t filthy!

Our animals aren’t suffering from one disease and infection to the next, the milk isn’t blasted through pipes into a bulk tank, and we don’t handle the milk over and over.

No hormones, no medications, no pipes and no tanks.

Just gently hand milked, strained and bottled, from healthy, grass fed cows.

So we are able to not heat ours up to kill bad bacteria, and in turn, also the good bacteria.

No dead milk, please.

And the flavor?

Ummm… let’s just say, if you haven’t been drinking raw, grass fed milk, you’ve not been living.

Seriously, this. is. life.

You won’t find a better tasting milk: creamy, fresh, and so satisfying.

Even the non-milk drinkers fall in love with it.

I’m telling you, when raw milk is consumed, lives are transformed.

And not only yours (“Goodbye “xyz” skin condition/leaky gut/dairy intolerance!”), but also the lives of the people and animals who provide it:

1)Our girls here on the farm are happy, living their best life, and we are so thankful for the gifts that they give us.

They wouldn’t be saying the same thing in a commercial dairy setting.

Disclaimer: Not all dairies are bad. Some are okay, some are horrific. But it doesn’t matter, because even the farmers that are more responsible, still have to make a living. And guess what? Their milk goes into the same place and gets mixed up with everyone else’s!😳

2)So we, the farmers, are so proud to be able to offer this seemingly outdated product to you.

We are small. Super small. And we are able to provide a special product because of that.

Support local! 📣

Know your farmer! 📢

This is the stuff that grandma and grandpa used to drink, and many people still do, the availability just isn’t always there.

So… How do we get around the little “illegal” detail?

Herd Shares!

Other herd share programs exist all over the state, along with a few here in the UP.

We would have been able to offer this to you a couple of years ago, but, well, things change (such is life!), and we wanted to be 100% ready.

My next post will dig a bit deeper into what sets our grass fed milk apart, and the many uses that are just a couple of jars away from some pretty neat creations.

But, for now, click over to our Raw Milk Herd Share page to read what a “Herd Share” actually is (I know, I keep saying that word!) and how easy it will be to become a part of something great.
