Carey is Full, am I EMPTY?
As we approach the last holiday of this year, leaving one behind but only a couple of weeks ago, I naturally look back, and ahead.
Back at what the last year has brought us, and what the next might.
We have the new website, so easy for everyone to view and see our prices and what we’re about.
The blog page for you to see our recipes and tips, and maybe a quirky, slightly-uncomfortable view into my personal thoughts (that child-birthing one 😅).
New (and less!) sheep here at the farm, all of our pigs and piglets.
The blasted quail venture that led me Nowhere. (Give up the hostage eggs!)
A sourdough starter that started It All, and ends in famous bagels and artisan breads.
And the new milk cow that will be providing our family with a steady supply of fresh milk again.
What does the next year hold for us?
A re-vamped Farm Store?
A revived garden, complete with new raised beds and cottage flowers?
(Yes, please!)
New fencing to keep our neighbors happy?😆
A new calf? New lambs? A new baby?
Okay, probably not a new baby, but, maybe?🧐😉🤣
When I go into the shelter with Carey the Cow (err, heifer, but, for the sake of writing, Carey the “Cow” sounds better, so we’ll go with that), and I rub her all over and brush her with her special soft brush, I “feel”.
I feel calm. I feel expectant. I feel thankful. I feel blessed.
I feel empty.
With my belly against her belly, it becomes so apparent that her womb is so full (due soon!), and mine is so empty.
Her baby squirms and bumps around in there, knowing nothing but the warm, safe place and the rhythmic munching of mama’s cud.
And here I am, on the other side of that 😉
I have a happy, growing baby that we were so blessed with this year, crawling already, learning, and just as warm and happy as that fat calf.
I am STILL so filled.
My cup overfloweth.
And I would be lying if I said you weren’t a large part if all of that.
We set high goals for our farm in the beginning of the year: some were reached, some were not, but along the way we were filled with joyful (and not so joyful) surprises.
Our customers have become like family, and it is the truth when we say that we are so thankful for each and every one:
The man just stopping by at the Farmers’ Market and decides to try some out-of-this-world jowl bacon. The family who’s camping out of town, but decided to buy some lamb brats and is determined to make them fit in their tiny RV freezer. The loyal customer that reads every email AND clicks on the links!
And the local gal who is so excited to try every product and recipe because they’ve placed their trust in us and our amazing sense of style and flavor😉
If we haven’t reached out and personally said “Thank You” this year, here it is.
Right now.
You mean so much to us, and we are always scheming up ways to share new things with you: recipes, inspiration, products, you name it.
I love telling you about the births (and we celebrate a most important one this coming holiday), the things that worked, and the things that didn’t.
(There’s been a lot of didn’t)
We love our family, our friends-turned-family, and our farm, customers included. You make it worth ALL of the hard work and hours, and we can’t wait for next year for many more to share and serve you.
Are you looking back too? What worked in your life? What didn’t?
If you’re looking ahead, like me, what do you see?
Hopefully we’re included 😉
