I’m on the Other Side, how about you?

Here I am again, in front of the old laptop, attempting to put into words feelings and “hindsights” that sound coherent and “un-weird” enough to share with you.

Almost impossible.

Only a few weeks ago I was saying things like, “Just think, in a week or so, (or any day!) I will be lying in bed, loving and nursing a newborn, being taken care of and fed!” (The getting fed is my favorite part)

No longer pregnant. No longer dreading and visualizing birth. No. I would be “on the other side.”

That’s what I would say: “Pretty soon, I’ll be on the Other Side.”

The other side of anxiety, worry, and the unknown. I wouldn’t lie awake at night visualizing the “process” or imagining what my lovely newborn would look like. Hair color, eye color, fat or small. What would my life be like then? I would picture my life at a particular moment in time and “plug in” a newborn.

And it happened. I am now on the Other Side of yet another birth, and, I am joyful!

Do you know what I have been doing? Lying in bed, loving and nursing a beautiful newborn, and being taken care of and fed.

Why am I mentioning all of this, you’re asking?

Because through this time, I have come to realize that there are more times than I have acknowledged where I have come out and am on the Other Side.

Financial distress. Illness. A shaking of Faith. Birth.

You name it, here I am, on the Other Side of a situation at any given time.

And aren’t we all?

For us on the farm it is largely about seasons. Seasons in life and seasons in nature: The winter season brings much needed rest and planning, while the warm season brings excitement and hard work. Spring brings lambing season, and as the years go by, we come in and out of seasons of restlessness, uncertainty, life, death, joy and sadness.

Lately I have been more careful to take a step back and actually LOOK at all that is before me. Children (lots of them), a hardworking and supportive husband, livestock that nourish you and I, a home that I can call “mine” and love on with a coat of new paint or a good sweeping. I have my health and my faith, and I have been blessed beyond what I could have ever dreamed possible.

Here I am in my little cottage, on my farm, talking to you:

We have grown and discovered a new love of serving that we never knew possible- being able to provide real, nourishing, local food products to you and your family is a joy that we have a hard time putting into words.

Farm visits, deliveries, markets, it is all a part of what we have come to love to do: getting SLOW food to your dinner table. Food that has taken TIME to grow, with nutrients that will heal.

Right now I am on the Other Side of birth. I am on the Other Side of winter (well, almost). And I may be on the other side of something else new and exciting, or uncomfortable and terrifying. I don’t know.

But, I do know that no matter where I am at or what side we are on, we will continue to provide you with the best farm products possible. One day at a time, one market at a time, one visit or email at a time.
