PERFECTIONISM Isn’t Going To Stop Us From Serving You Better
You would assume that it would be lack of time to get everything accomplished that I have to do, because I have so many littles (and animals) under foot.
Nope, that's not it.
In fact, I have quite a bit of time, because I am careful not to let our family's “plate” get too full. I don't want to be the person that you talk to and the first words out of their mouth is “Oh, I have just been so busy!...”
I like to share our ideas and keep you informed on what is happening at the farm, but, please don't ever think for even one moment that I am too busy for you. We are not these incredibly busy people that never have time to sit down and chat with you or answer any questions.
(I don't like it when I get that vibe from people: “Oh, they're too busy and 'important' to speak with me abut this or that.”)
That's not us.
Now, don't get me wrong, we have busy seasons too, like Market season or lambing season, but, our everyday is pretty much the same: milking cows, tossing hay, doing dishes, folding laundry, battling with children...you know, the usual.
Once I have all of those important tasks completed, then I feel like I can move onto to other things.
Or, can I?
You see, there lies the problem.
I can sweep the floor, but, I cannot mop the floor because, well, what if I don't get it finished?
There's no point in starting more seeds when I know I will just allow the garden to become a tangled jungle by mid (early?) season.
That knitting project is too difficult for me because it uses double-pointed needles, and I probably won't be very good at those, so I'd better stick to straight needles (and never circular!).
This may all sound like a bunch of rambling on ,but, it's very true.
And, I believe that it is something that can be talked about. Should be talked about.
PERFECTIONISM.
That's me, right there.
I don't like starting new things because I have a horrible habit of not finishing them, so instead, I sit in a state of paralyzed limbo.
I would rather research it than do it, that way I can't mess it up.
Are you like that, too?
You're not alone, because I don't like to fail (who does?), but I like to grow.
I sometimes find myself with a “not good enough” attitude because of failures in the past, or letdowns that I didn't understand at the time.
Well, I've decided that it's high time that we make necessary changes, even when it's uncomfortable.
I don't want to live my life with regrets, and,
I don't want to reach my goals,
because, well...I hadn't set them very high.
When you set high goals, you may not reach them, and, I couldn't allow that.
Not anymore.
It's time we put our money where our mouth is and make certain that our products are easily accessible to you year 'round, not just during market season, or a quick delivery here and there.
They're not enough.
Not enough time and resources to adequately hear you and serve you the best product for your situation. Not enough room in the coolers to bring enough cuts that you may be interested in.
“Oh, you wanted a blueberry pie, well, I brought apple.”
“This ham is too small for your number of guests? I've got the size you need at home, I couldn't fit it in the cooler today.”
“I don't have that brochure about raw milk for you... actually, it blew off the table.”.
You see, we needed to re-vamp our set-up here so that you can come and actually see what we're talking about.
We want to share it with you.
It's a HUGE deal to us to open up the Farm Store here, I'm not used to vehicles pulling in and out of the driveway constantly.
But, I'm excited about who will come: people in search of real food from real people that genuinely want to help them.
“Your tummy can't always handle pork, but you miss your pork chops? Try a package of these corn and soy free chops, not injected with everything-under-the-sun.”
“You've been in search of an apple pie with just the right amount of spice, like your grandma used to make? Try this one, trust me.”
“Camping this weekend and want to take some bacon and eggs along? Got 'em.”
But...what will they see when they get here?
Will it be everything they wanted, or imagined it to be?
Probably not...
because our humble cottage is currently THREE different colors (Depending on what side you're on. “Green! Just paint it all blasted green!”), because someone couldn't make their mind up (perfectionism), and then...it rained, and we couldn't finish right away.
The flowerbeds will be new (puny), and the Farm Store is not large or grand.
But, it's for you, and it's a start.
A start in large, uncomfortable goals.
So, even though the fencing is sad, and my front porch steps are pieced together with left over un-split firewood, because I loathed the deck that was here and ripped it out... and never decided what I wanted my perfect porch to be,
it will be fine.
What are you deciding to be “fine” with? What uncomfortable and less-than-perfect stage are you going through right now?
Have you been considering starting a new hobby? Eating better and being more active? Participating in your community more, or shopping LOCAL? Filling your freezer with a variety of meats? Incorporating raw milk into your lifestyle?
Try going out on a limb to purchase better-than-anything-you've-ever-tasted meat, milk, eggs, and sourdough. It's a completely different buying experience than the boring, impersonal shopping at the grocery store in town. And it's totally, 100% satisfying.
We are real people that care about you and your life and your obstacles: let us help you look better, feel better, and buy better.
Don't sit in indecision, waiting for the perfect product to magically pop up on the stores'shelf, and in the meantime, continue not reaching your goals, or purchasing the meat that you know is going to take your meal to the next level.
If you're holding yourself back with perfectionism, take if from me: dream big anyway, do it when it hurts, because, if your goals are small, you don't want to reach them.
The Farm Store is currently due to open this upcoming week! I'm terrified and not at all ready.
But, I'm doing it scared, and...it'll be fine.
