We’re Here to Help You Through This: Responding to the Pandemic

We have not been “avoiding” writing about this pandemic, but, we’ve been avoiding writing about this pandemic.

You see, we have watched the majority of other farms do one of two things:

1)lower their prices to entice customers who are scared,

or

2) raise their prices to entice customers who are scared.

Here at Pell’s Pie Patch & Family Farm, our fresh, farm-raised products are worth just as much today as they were yesterday as they will be tomorrow. No raised prices, no crazy “sales”, just nourishing, wholesome food.

So we haven’t “done” anything.

However, we don’t want you to be scared.

And you know what? We also don’t want you to feel like we forgot about you!

So here we are:

We are open, we are ready, and we are here for you!

Let’s nourish our family during such a time as this.

It is so refreshing and encouraging to see our local communities begin to take an interest in farm-raised products. We have seen multiple people purchase grass-fed meat that previously never took an interest. Eggs are being bought up, and pre-orders/bulk purchases are being arranged.

Fantastic news! Let’s take care of our bodies! Support our local farmers!

But with all of that, we still understand that customers are a little apprehensive about cooking methods (“What do I do with THIS again?”), supply and demand, and if investing in meat “just in case” is really worth it.

So we want to say this: We’re thinking about you.

We are only an email or phone call away! Visit the website frequently and tell those you care about.

We provide recipes and cooking tips!

You and your family’s health is ALWAYS “worth” it.

Someday this virus will be a memory. Someday, life will return back to the normal that you knew. And someday… You’ll still have to put supper on the table that will either hurt, or help, you and your littles.

Here on the farm, we choose to invest in great quality food rather than medical bills. (If it’s not the Covid-19, it’s the common cold and flu bug every year!)

C’Mon, you know the old age: “An ounce of prevention…”

We all have to eat! So why not choose to make it an enjoyable, nourishing experience every time?!

And, depending on your current employment situation, you may be home more now, with the unique opportunity to SLOW DOWN your food game.

New recipes. New nutrients. New YOU.

We are big fans of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and “Nourishing Traditions” is our thing.

Their protocol and methods for keeping your body tip-top can be trusted, and we implement as much as we can here for our family.

So, I took down some little snippet notes (it was a great idea from a fellow farmer) that I would like to share with you from an article written by Sally Fallon Morell, author and chef.

Our family has found these tips to be extremely helpful and encouraging, and we know that yours will too!

As a fellow mother, I know how important it is to feel like you are actually able to “do something” during this time, instead of feeling helpless or lost.

(Due this month with number five! Where did the time go?!)

Knowledge is power, and the more you know, the more you can prepare and prevent!

·       Vitamin A is our number one protection against viruses. So take your cod liver oil, one that contains natural vitamin A and eat liver once a week. (Available with pastured chicken, lamb, and pork bulk orders)

·       Vitamin D works with Vitamin A to give is a strong immune system. Best sources are cod liver oil, egg yolks from pastured hens, butter from grass-fed cows, fish eggs and lard from pigs raised outdoors. (Hello, eggs and Pastured Pork Pre-Orders!)

·       Gelatin-rich bone broth supports the immune system and helps detoxify us. (We currently have a limited supply of stew hens for purchase to make your soup/bone broth. We also have lamb soup bones as well! Ask us about them!)

·       Coconut oil. Coronavirus is a lipid-coated virus that pegs out in the presence of medium-chain triglycerides- and coconut oil is our best source of these healthy fats.

·       Your best source of vitamin C is fermented veggies like sauerkraut- there is ten times more vitamin C in sauerkraut than in fresh cabbage!

·       Saturated fats. Coronavirus has an affinity for the lungs, and the lungs can’t work without saturated fats, so eat plenty of butter and avoid all industrial fats and oils. (LAMB! PASTURED PORK! PASTURED CHICKEN SKIN!)

·       Raw whole milk from pastured cows contain many compounds that strengthen the immune system.

We don’t promote panic-buying, we support preventative purchasing. Prepared, feel-good readiness that places plenty of meat in your home that is there when you want it to be, and need it to be.

So look back, look forward, and focus on now.

What could you use? A pastured stew hen? Lamb by the cut? Are you ready to place those bulk pre-order deposits to hold your place in line?

Pastured Eggs in the Spring.

Pastured Chickens in the Summer.

Grass-Fed Lamb in the Fall.

Pastured Pork in the Winter.

We have you covered all year round.

So keep these nutritional tips in mind and forward to a friend!

Here’s to staying humble and happy during this time! We can’t wait to hear from you!

Lovingly,

Briana Pell
